Cal Poly Pomona

Geological Sciences Department

Welcome

Welcome to the Cal Poly-Pomona Geological Sciences Department. As one of two California Polytechnic Universities, our primary mission is to prepare graduates for public and private sector employment in the geo-sciences and related fields. As a member of the California State University consortium we are also dedicated to training graduates for roles in secondary geosciences education.

We are a dynamic and growing department conducting research throughout the American Southwest, neighboring Mexico and Central America. In keeping with the Cal Poly philosophy of "Learn By Doing" we place strong emphasis on field-based learning as an integral part of our curriculum. The Senior Thesis provides majors with the opportunity to conduct independent research in fields of interest, leading to contacts within the geoscience community, as well as preparation for careers and graduate school.
